Guide to Library and Archive Services: External users

External users

We welcome eligible external users to our three library spaces. Please see below for details.

Alumni visitors

Former students can use the Library spaces Monday to Friday 9am - 11pm, and Saturday to Sunday 11am - 11pm. You will need to register for an Alumni card, which you will need for reference access to the Library. Borrowing rights are available for a fee, please contact us via chat for more information.

SCONUL visitors

SCONUL Access is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme.

1. To apply, visit the SCONUL access website You will need your Library or ID Card number from your home institution and your institutional email address to complete the application.

2. Once your application is approved, you can visit University of Westminster libraries. You will need to show your approval email and current university ID card at the reception and at the Student Centre counter.

FAQs:

Can I use or borrow your books?

Your approval email will show which band you are: SCONUL users from Band A-C can borrow up to 5 books with automatic renewals. SCONUL users from Band R have reference-only access to books.

Can I use your WiFi or computers?

You can sign into the WiFi with your university credentials if your home university also uses Eduroam. SCONUL users do not have access to networked PCs, e-resources, or inter-library loans (ILLs).

My approval email has expired, can I still use your library?

We check the expiry dates of both your approval email and your university ID - if either have expired then we cannot give you access to our libraries. Please check this before your visit. You are able to apply for SCONUL access again if your current access is close to expiry.
