You need to acknowledge your use of Generative AI whenever and however you have used it. Failing to do so may constitute academic misconduct. There are two main ways you might use Generative AI in your assignment, which are explained below.
Please note the University's Guidance for students on the use of Generative AI is the definitive advice on this.
This includes grammar and spelling checks, identifying keywords for an internet search, brainstorming ideas, developing a draft plan or structure, and translating text into another language.
If you use AI for any of the above, you must include the following statement at the top or bottom of your submission:
“In this assessment, I used [list names of AI tools used] to [explain how you used them]”. For example, "In this assessment, I used GrammarlyGO to brainstorm initial ideas".
If you need to cite an AI source, you should add an acknowledgement statement (see box opposite for more details). In addition, you should create a citation and include the source in your bibliography. How you do this will depend on which referencing style you are using.
Please note that you are only likely to cite AI-created content as a source in assignments where your tutor has asked you to use AI and refer to it in your work. AI chatbots are not generally deemed to be reputable sources.
Cite Them Right has guidance on citing AI sources using Harvard, APA, Chicago, IEEE, and OSCOLA.
