The current academic year (2023/24) will still use the old Talis Reading List system.
The new reading list system will be available through Blackboard for the 2024/25 academic year modules; this will happen upon completion of the Blackboard rollover, which is usually scheduled for late July.
The reading lists are currently accessible via the Intranet home page - look for Reading Lists (New - Leganto) at the bottom of the page.
Yes, it is possible to provide links under the Course Content section of a module's Blackboard page to specific reading list sections. This could be particularly useful when directing students to a specific week's reading, or if there are specific sections aimed at different groups within your module.
First, you will need to select the 'Share section' icon at the top of the specific section you would like to link to; you will then need to copy the shareable link when prompted.
On the relevant Blackboard module page, you will then need to click the plus icon at the top of the Course Content page, and select 'Create'.
From the menu that appears, select 'Link' and under the options for 'Web Link'; then provide the intended Display Name and copy the shareable link into the relevant box. It is important to make sure that the visibility is set to 'Visible to students', and it is advisable to de-select the 'Open in a new window' box. On this screen, you will also be given the option to provide a brief explanation of the section.
If you click 'Save', the link should now appear within the module's Course Content. Students who click this link will be directed to the intended specific section. For further demonstration, please see our video guides page.
There are a number of websites which are not compatible with the use of the Cite It! tool as a way of adding resources to your list. Two of the most significant of these are Wiley Online Library and the BBC website. Unfortunately this is due to the way these websites have been set up by their respective owners, and we cannot change this.
If you'd like to add a resource from a website on which the Cite It! button does not work, we instead recommend using the 'Manual entry' method. This can be found under the main 'Add items' options; you will just need to fill in the mandatory fields and your resource will be added to your list.
