How to use CIS?

How do I use CIS?

Simple search

Enter any key words that describe what you are looking for.  These could be a manufacturer's name, a product name, words from a document title, standard number (eg BS 8110), or a subject.  It will search for the terms anywhere they occur.  You can use AND, OR, NOT to combine terms, and the character * to stand for any number of unspecified letters or digits.

Advanced search

This allows you to specify which fields to search.  You can search just in a document's title, or abstract, or just the document number, or just the publisher.  It also allows you to restrict the search to specified years.  If you enter a very general term, it will display a list of more specific terms, as well as the results for your search.

Browse

You can browse a list of subjects by clicking on the 'browse' option, or you can browse lists of publishers, or series by clicking 'Publishers' or 'Series' at the top of the page.

Viewing the results

From the table of results, click on the entry that you want to see.  You will need to have Adobe Acrobat reader installed on your computer.

Specify-it

If you choose this instead of the Construction Information Service once you have logged in, you will be able to search for companies' catalogues and contact details, or particular components or products.  You can search by company name, product or category of product.  You can then view the caalogue, and print or download it.
