Psychology: Referencing

Subject guide for psychology students

Information sources on APA style

Psychology courses use the APA (American Psychological Association) style for referencing. You should use the AWiP (Assessed Work in Psychology) guide that is provided by your course as a first point of call. The AWiP guide illustrates the basic elements of the style with examples. You can access the guide from here.

The Library also subscribes to Cite Them Right, an online referencing resource with extensive examples from the latest edition of the APA Publication Manual, which is also available in print on the library shelves.

APA also have their own online tutorials for mastering this reference style: https://apastyle.apa.org/instructional-aids/tutorials-webinars

And APA provide further citation examples of the main types of information sources on their website: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples#textual-works
