Library Guides

Create and manage your online reading list: Add resources

This guide is for academic staff.

Add resources

The instructions to create and add new bookmarks for each type of source are displayed as a revolving gallery of screenshot images. The slides will advance automatically but you can also use the right and left navigation arrows to manually move between slides. There are also instructions on how to add existing bookmarks to your list.

Books from Library Search

Step 1

Log-in to Library Search and search for the book you want to add to the list and click on the title link.

Step 2

Go to the Links section of the catalogue record and click on Bookmark to my reading list.

Step 3

The next screen shows the details. If it is an ebook, the online resource box will be checked. You can manually amend or add any details if they have not been imported correctly.

You have the option to click Create - this will save the item in your bookmarks to be added to a list at a later stage. If you have already created a list structure, the recommended option is Create and add to list.

Step 4

Click Create and add to list and fill out the details in the pop-up box.

  • If you have multiple lists you can select the correct one from the first drop-down list.
  • Select a specific list section from the second drop-down list or just add to the end of the list.
  • Add a student note to provide more information or instruction.
  • Set the importance of the item as essential or further. This determines the number of copies the Library purchases. Speak to your Academic Liaison Librarian for further information on purchasing policies.

Books not currently in Library

Step 1

If a book is not in the library's collection, you can still add the book details to your list so that the Library can purchase it. The best site to bookmark the details is www.amazon.co.uk.

  • Search for the book on amazon and open the item record.
  • Click on your Add to my bookmarks button in your browser toolbar (if you do not have this button in your toolbar, go to the First Steps page of this guide for further information).

Step 2

Check the details in the bookmarking window and then click Create and add to list to add to a specific reading list.

Step 3

Click Create and add to list and fill out the details in the pop-up box.

  • If you have multiple lists you can select the correct one from the first drop-down list.
  • Select a specific list section from the second drop-down list or just add to the end of the list.
  • Add a student note to provide more information or instruction.
  • Set the importance of the item as essential or further. This determines the number of copies the Library purchases. Speak to your Academic Liaison Librarian for further information on purchasing policies.

E-journal articles

Step 1

Search for the article details using Articles and More on Library Search and click on the Full text available link.

Please note that if you cannot find the article on Articles and More, you can try searching for the journal title using Books, Journals and More to check whether the Library has access to the publication.

Check the details in the bookmarking window and click on either Create to save the bookmark for later or Create and add to list to add to one of your reading lists immediately.

Step 4

Click Create and add to list and fill out the details in the pop-up box.

Webpages and web resources (including YouTube)

Step 1

Go to the web page you would like to bookmark and click on the Add to my bookmarks button in your browser toolbar.

Step 2

Check that the details in the bookmarking window are correct. Webpages are more likely to have details missing than book and article records so you may need to manually add or amend some of the details. Make sure that the online resource box is checked and that you select the web address in the pop-up window.

Step 3

Click Create and add to list and fill out the details in the pop-up box.

  • If you have multiple lists you can select the correct one from the first drop-down list.
  • Select a specific list section from the second drop-down list or just add to the end of the list.
  • Add a student note to provide more information or instruction.
  • Set the importance of the item as essential or further.

Add existing bookmarks

To add an existing bookmark to your list, or to add a particular item to multiple places in your list, go to the classic edit view and drag-and-drop the required bookmark from the right-hand Most recent bookmarks panel to the left-hand list panel.

Go to the Edit list page of this guide to find more information on opening the edit view and saving your draft.
